{"id":80,"date":"2012-06-23T12:25:33","date_gmt":"2012-06-23T12:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/twinmommeetsautism.com\/?p=80"},"modified":"2012-06-23T12:25:33","modified_gmt":"2012-06-23T12:25:33","slug":"becoming-remarkably-able-the-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/twinmommeetsautism.com\/index.php\/2012\/06\/23\/becoming-remarkably-able-the-book\/","title":{"rendered":"Becoming Remarkably Able &#8211; the book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a id=\"product_image-996\" href=\"http:\/\/independencebound.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/RemarkablyAbleCover.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"View Larger Image \u00bb\" src=\"http:\/\/independencebound.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/RemarkablyAbleCover-235x300.jpg\" alt=\"RemarkablyAbleCover\" width=\"235\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>What a catchphrase for today, and for all of us who parent adults with autism &#8211; <a title=\"Becoming Remarkably Able\" href=\"http:\/\/independencebound.com\/wordpress\/store\/products\/996\">Becoming Remarkbly Able<\/a>, by Dr. Jackie Marquette.\u00a0 I hear her speak at an autism conference and marveled at the growth she achieved with her son Trent.\u00a0 Even more notable is that Trent&#8217;s autism in many ways is the classic kind.\u00a0 No offense intended to anyone, but with higher functioning autistic individuals who can speak, write, drive cars and attend college &#8211; it&#8217;s easy to profile their achievements, because they are much like our own.\u00a0\u00a0 Less common is the celebration of the more challenged.\u00a0 Trent, from Jackie&#8217;s accounts, has needs which she characterizes as &#8220;significant.&#8221;\u00a0 Yet at the time I attended the conference,\u00a0Trent&#8217;s artwork business as sold on greeting cards and prints was flourishing to the point he was acheiving\u00a0a little steady income stream from it enough to pay for a portion of his living needs, if I recall correctly.\u00a0\u00a0 That&#8217;s absolutely huge,\u00a0at least for\u00a0parents like me who struggle to help our teens and young adults acheive\u00a0gainful employement, and worry about their life path without it.\u00a0\u00a0Trent and Jackie are\u00a0a beacon\u00a0 as I work to uncover the unique strengths in my guys.<\/p>\n<p>Listen to the acceptance and love for what is unique in her son, from the publisher&#8217;s description of Jackie&#8217;s book:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The Walking the Path Model\u00a9 is a system of ongoing assessment and action steps that promote the individual\u2019s participation, emotional support, and growth.
