{"id":427,"date":"2015-02-09T13:44:16","date_gmt":"2015-02-09T13:44:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/twinmommeetsautism.com\/?p=427"},"modified":"2015-02-09T13:44:16","modified_gmt":"2015-02-09T13:44:16","slug":"february-9-simple-victories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/twinmommeetsautism.com\/index.php\/2015\/02\/09\/february-9-simple-victories\/","title":{"rendered":"February 9 &#8211; Celebrating Simple Victories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twinmommeetsautism.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/W-and-J-cups-RESIZED-02-09-15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 407px; height: 946px;\" alt=\"W and J cups RESIZED 02-09-15\" src=\"http:\/\/twinmommeetsautism.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/W-and-J-cups-RESIZED-02-09-15.jpg\" width=\"1224\" height=\"1290\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We slog through autism and on the dark days think we aren&#8217;t getting anywhere.\u00a0 And then it happens.\u00a0 They learn.<\/p>\n<p>Last night W. self-corrected his choice of drinking cup and after maybe 1,000 reruns of the video model and just as many\u00a0corrections from Mom, Dad and caregivers, he stopped going for the wrong one and did what he trained &#8211; &#8220;get the W. cup.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/assets.nydailynews.com\/img\/2010\/02\/26\/gal_parenthood9.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"250\" \/>I&#8217;m reminded of the movie &#8220;Parenthood&#8221; with Steve Martin where his son catches a long fly ball when he&#8217;d flubbed more than a few &#8211; when his teammates gave up on him &#8211; when his parent&#8217;s expectations were nil.\u00a0 In response to dad&#8217;s incredulity, the mom says &#8220;well what did you think?\u00a0 You only practiced catching that ball 10,000 times.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It was W&#8217;s\u00a0fly ball catch &#8211; and best of all, he KNEW IT- he knew why Mommy was especially happy, hugging and high-fiving and whooping and hollering.\u00a0 W.\u00a0lingered for about 5 minutes letting me slather on the praise.\u00a0 He was beaming, and he knew why.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s hoping we all have a moment like this today when as parents we stretch for that fly ball, and miraculously, because we did our job, it&#8217;s a catch.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We slog through autism and on the dark days think we aren&#8217;t getting anywhere.\u00a0 And then it happens.\u00a0 They learn.
